Polls are an essential step for any company or business to know about its customer’s perspective without putting out much information.
Even for a normal person, polls can be crucial part if he wants to buy a Smartphone and is confused between multiple options.
So if you’re a person or a business; Google+ not only allows you to put Status, Photos, Videos, Links and Events, it also allows one to take polls.
There are however two ways to take a poll on Google+; one is a conventional way that Google+ offers and another is a workaround.
So without wasting much time…
Method 1: Conventional Way to take Poll on Google+
This method is very simple and straightforward.
All you have to is, log in to Google+ and click on ‘Poll’ from the status update section.
Once done, you’ll be taken to next screen where you can add your poll question, select an image (optional) for your poll and add upto 5 options.
Once your poll is ready, you can post it.
The poll will look like this once posted.
Now just for a demo, I’ll select one of the options from our poll; this is how the poll will work.
As multiple people select more options, you’ll get to see how many people have casted their vote and which option has the most votes.
The design of the poll is thoughtful and looks very fresh.
The problem with this conventional poll is; a user is allowed to post only 5 options and not more than that.
Suppose if you want to post a poll which involves more than 5 options; you’re not allowed doing it.
Still if you want to do so; there’s an old workaround for you.
Method 2: Workaround for Conventional Poll
For our second method, where we require more than 5 Options, we’re not going to use the Poll Feature provided by Google+ instead we’ll use the basic status update.
The trick here is to post your question as a regular status update on Google+.
Now for the multiple poll options; what we’re going to do is post comments on our status with our poll options.
We’re going to post each option as a new comment and keep doing till we put all our poll options in comments.
See the image below for better understanding.
Why we’re using this?
Google+ not only allows us to ‘+1’ a status but also a comment too. Hence if another user wants to cast his vote, he can ‘+1’ a comment and cast his vote.
In order to avoid hassle, you must disable comments and re-shares once all options are commented; so as other users don’t post their own comments.
Note: To disable comments and re-shares, click on small down arrow at top-right section of the post. From there select ‘Disable Comments’ and ‘Disable Re-shares’. You will also receive a notification when someone votes.
This is what Google+ users used to do when they needed to take a poll before Google+ officially introduced the Poll feature.
However sometimes you might want your post to be seen only by a limited number of people, like your friends, family or extended circles.
In order to do that, you must remove the ‘Public’ bubble from ‘To:’ section and select appropriate circle. Else you can manually select people whom you want the post to be seen by.
I hope I was able to put forth an informative piece of content.
