It is major issue faced by everyone like when we are working online and suddenly the network disappears. Especially when we are on a trip or tour. In this situation Google Chrome provides a feature in which we can also work Offline even when we are not connected to the internet.
Working offline is an advanced Feature in Chrome which is mostly used when internet isn’t available or disconnected for some reason.
The normal problem of web page not getting loaded?
In normal case when you open a web page in Google Chrome, it connects to the internet, get the latest version of the page and display it on your screen. But if you work in Chrome without internet connection, an image of a dinosaur comes to screen with the message ‘unable to connect to the internet’.
But honestly this image of dinosaur has its way out if you know the tactic to work offline. Google Chrome has the amazing capability to save all the pages you open when internet connection is live and display it on your screen in absence of internet connection.
Therefore if you are often in a situation where internet isn’t available, Google Chrome has a hidden setting whereby you can manage the offline mode. Unfortunately Google Chrome doesn’t have this setting uploaded as default. You have to enable it manually.
How does this work?
How to Enable work offline mode in Google chrome
Steps that needs to be followed:-
Go to the address bar in Google Chrome, type ‘chrome://flags‘ and then click ‘Enable Offline Load Stale Button
Then click on ‘Relaunch Now’ on the bottom left side of your chrome to restart your browser. When you enable the offline mode, Google Chrome will not show the message as ‘unable to load‘ when you are working offline. The automatically saved web pages will start opening when you click them even when your computer is not in touch with internet.
Now if you are offline on Chrome browser and you have entered the website on which you were working previously. It will display you an option on the page “show saved copy” . Simply you need click on the “show saved copy” option and it will open that website on which you were working previously.
Note: User will be able to open those sites/pages that he/she had already visited before performing this offline chrome setting. It will show some save option like show saved copy while working in offline chrome mode.
Offline Auto-Reload Mode?
The major issue is when you want to reload the page when you are offline and or connected to internet. Actually there is one more option available in “chrome://flags” is “Offline Auto-Reload Mode” and what does this option do is it will keep track of the pages that failed to load while you are offline which Chrome will auto-reload and populate an entry for in the cache when the browser is back online.
Quick tip – You may not really remember the sites that you have visited when your browser was connected to internet. You can check that out by clicking on menu of chrome browser from top right. From dropdown go to history and there you can check your browsing history and read the content if you are offline.
I have tried to put all viable option to make your Google offline Chrome work efficiently. It is understandable if you still face issues connecting to the offline mode and again getting the message as unable to reload. Please do post your experiences, satisfactory or unsatisfactory for further research and discussion.
