Keeping contact details in your email id is a common trend and necessity these days. One of the biggest benefit is they are handy and easily accessible anywhere you go. You can also get your contacts across all the devices you use. While we are talking of storing contacts on email, through social networking services etc., the most popular email service Gmail has its name in the first place.
Sometimes, we have incomplete contact details in Google contacts, and do not know how to update them easily. Today I am showing you the easy way of knowing your Google contacts up-to-date.
P.S. No scripts or coding required.
What is Google Contacts?
If you are here reading this post, it is darn clear you already are familiar with Google contacts. But, in case you still have hopped over this page and are curious to know what Google contact is and how it works, read on.
Google contacts is a service by Google which unifies our contact details like email, blog URL, Skype ID, phone number etc. in a single place. Over the time our Google contacts become cluttered and do lack the updated information about contacts that were fed before a pretty good time.
The help section of Google isn’t that good in solving those issues. So with lots of research and errors and trials (which I did trying many novice apps and even some scripts) I have found a service that is helpful in removing the Google clutter and an easy way to keep your Google contacts up to date.
P.S. This is not a paid post or sponsored post, I am showing a tutorial on the service because I found it helpful and think it will help you too.
Full Contact: is a freemium service that offers pretty good functionality to keep the Google contacts up to date. However their priced version is for hardcore users with over 5000 contacts.
We will now update our Google contacts, de-duplicate them, remove the noise by merging duplicate contacts and also collecting business cards through its integrated card reader app for IOS and android.
To get started you have to do is:
- Sign up for the service called “full contact” here. (It needs access to your Gmail account in order to proceed).
- There are two plans namely, “free” and “premium”.
- Sign up for the free version which offers support up to 5000 contacts and up to 10 card keeping per month.
How to sync and update Google contacts easily?
Using full contacts, you can sign in through your Gmail account and you can access all the contacts you have saved for it.
The dashboard is pretty easy but let me guide you throughout.
- Unified contacts:
On the left bar, the first place (marked by (1) on the screenshot) is unified contacts, which shows the total or unified contacts of your Google account.
You may also want to learn:
Continue with Full contacts:
You can edit your individual contacts; add notes and tags for each of them here.
- All contacts:
The section allows you to add contacts. We can add the Address books like Facebook, twitter, foursquare including Google contacts. We can also get a contact file uploaded to the database.
- Card Reader
The card reader under “all contacts” gives you the opportunity to scan cards that would be helpful to update your Google contacts with business cards. These data will be then reviewed by human team of the app and then updated to your dedicated address book.
Next in the row is the updates section. This section is used to update any contact of yours that has recently been modified elsewhere. The fullcontact team is always on alert to see if your contacts are updated elsewhere. If they are done then it analyses them and puts them to be reviewed by you here.
- Merge duplicates:
It sometimes happen that we have certain contacts from some source and with time we forget that contact, now when we again come across them once again, we tend to copy them again to our address. Over the years this leads to creating heaps of duplicate contacts in your Google contacts.
This app already checks and merges the most probable duplicate contacts with similar information. But in case it didn’t you need to go here for checking the ones its inbuilt algorithm couldn’t sort. Then you can merge them, delete them or do whatever you deem fit.
- Tags and group:
Under this tab you can get your contacts in selective categories by assigning them via tags and groups. This tab is just like how we assign group contacts in mobile contacts stored in a SIM card.
This is how we can manage Google contacts and update them with existing contact information in a fluid easy way. Using FullContact you can actually do many things with Google contacts including cleaning the duplicate contacts, grouping the contacts, merge third party contacts, scan business cards etc. so that your Google contact can remain clean and tidy.
